About DBF
Our Mission
The Detroit Bass Federation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to uniting, supporting, and empowering bass players across the Motor City and beyond. We believe the bass is more than an instrument — it’s the heartbeat of music and a force for connection, community and creativity.
Our mission is to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive community where bassists of all backgrounds and skill levels can learn, grow, and thrive through cultural events, education, performances and mentoring.

Who We Are
Founded by passionate musicians and educators, the Detroit Bass Federation brings together bass players from every genre — from jazz, funk, soul, R&B and Hip-Hop, to rock, classical, and beyond. We are a collective of artists, mentors, teachers and enthusiasts committed to preserving Detroit’s rich musical legacy while shaping the future of bass innovation and education. Our hallmark event in partnership with Motown Museum, is Detroit Bass Day, an inclusive gathering to support past, present and future bass players.
